Panoche Energy Project

Panoche Energy Project - Firebaugh, CA

While many California energy facilities currently under construction are experiencing marked delays, the Panoche Energy Center is moving forward ahead of schedule with plans to bring the facility online in time for the summer 2009 peak energy season. Kiewit Power Constructors Co., a subsidiary of Kiewit Corporation, was awarded the contract to engineer, procure and construct the 400-megawatt simple cycle power plant with four GE LMS100 natural gas-fired combustion turbines.

Kiewit’s vast California project experience allows the project team to move forward quickly, working side-by-side with agencies using formal review and approval processes. The Panoche Energy Center project team is also working closely with the California Energy Commission to ensure strict conformance with all California air quality and environment laws.

While this project is important to California’s need for peaking power during the demanding summer months, the Panoche Energy Center is also important to the client. Long-term plans include additional investments and facility development throughout California.
